Six Sunday #25: Chills

Welcome back for more Six Sentence Sunday teasers from Chills. Continuing on from last week, Constance and the marquess are still at odds over her plans to marry.

“I am not your responsibility.”

The marquess took a step forward. His jaw appeared to be locked in place. She hoped he kept it that way. When Ettington stopped a mere pace from her, she had to raise her chin high to keep him in view.

“You will not marry Cullen,” he said.

  1. An observation … Marquess sounds like a female honorific… I know it’s not but it has that feel about it.

That said it adds to the tension because his title is at odds with his behaviour. A good bit of conflict.

  2. Interesting battle of wills going on here. I like it! But if he doesn’t want her to marry Cullen, he’ll have to provide a better alternative. Dare I hope?

  3. Lovely writing, l’m sure he has his reasons, and l like a man to take control once in a while!

  4. I think it’s funny that in almost every regency novel, the heroine raises her chin and straightens her back. Now I realize posture isn’t exactly sought after these days, but I don’t think I’ve ever raised my chin in my life and I’m short! Keep up the great writing and I’m happy I stumbled here today 🙂
