The Wedding Affair sneak peek 6 #WeWriWa

Welcome back for the next excerpt from The Wedding Affair. Release day is next week. Super nervous as usual about that even though this is the 30th romance I’ve published. In this scene, Sally and Felix have been pushed together by her grandfather.

“I am sorry I am late.” Sally hurried forward. “Ellicott wanted to see Torre Cottage with Louisa and me, and we lost track of time.”

What she had not expected when she took in the room was to come face-to-face with Felix Hastings. She had been trying to forget him all over again, and his presence rooted her to the spot. He unwound from his chair and stood at his full height of six feet three inches, and her heart slammed into her ribs rather painfully as he bowed.

His dark hair was just as unruly as it had been the night before, and she longed to run her fingers through the curls to tame them. His pale blue eyes widened as she stared, and his lips pressed together, reminding her of where they had last kissed her skin. Oh, how those wicked lips had corrupted her.

Book Description

The life she wants is the love he lost.

Coming face-to-face before her wedding with the scoundrel who broke her heart and destroyed her trust could not be more awkward or ill timed for Sally Ford. When she agreed to give her hand and fortune to London’s most eligible earl, she did so believing she would learn to love him after they tied the knot. Her betrothed has no idea she was engaged to Captain Felix Hastings six years ago, or that she gave her innocence to the ambitious officer.

When Felix answered the summons from his superior he never expected to face Sally Ford, the woman who’d believed a lie and labeled him a fortune hunter before calling off their engagement six years ago. In his determination to clear the air about the past, pride clashes with the truth as every argument and stolen moment reignites a passion that has never waned. Giving in could destroy everything they’ve both worked so hard to achieve, or will fate offer them a chance to begin again if only they can forgive?

The Wedding Affair sneak peek 5 #WeWriWa

Welcome back for my fifth snippet from The Wedding Affair. It’s a beautiful sunny Sunday down under. I hope you’re having a similarly wonderful weekend. In this excerpt, Felix is getting the first hint that he’s not going to enjoy this summons.

[wc_divider style=”dotted” line=”single” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]

Felix moved to stand before the table. “I was given to believe the matter that brought me here was urgent.”

“And it is,” the duke barked. “Absolutely vital.”

“Then what is this about?” Felix folded his arms across his chest, belligerence heating his blood at the unnecessary delay. “The admiral has told me nothing of my purpose in being here.”

The duke appeared amused rather than intimidated by his posture. “This is about your career, Captain. Your very future as commander of the Selfridge.”

Thanks for reading and commenting on the fifth snippet from my upcoming release, The Wedding Affair. Apologies that I didn’t get around to comment on more blogs last week. Mother’s Day and week-long sinus pain kept me offline more than I would have liked. Release day is just over a week away. Yay!

The Wedding Affair sneak peek 4 #WeWriWa

Happy Mother’s Day!! And welcome back for my fourth snippet from The Wedding Affair. My last snippet brought my two characters together. This new excerpt, skips ahead a bit. Sally and Felix have just had a blazing row in the garden which didn’t resolve anything at all for either character. Felix, disappointed now, has now returned to the dining room where the gentlemen are still drinking port and smoking cigars. The very first words I scrawled down for this story in the planning phase was ‘The Duke of Rutherford was a menace.’ and he is not above telling Felix what he needs in his life. Enjoy!

[wc_divider style=”dotted” line=”single” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]

He was surprised the duke had married for love and made mention of it. Most lords did not speak kindly of their wives, or so he had noticed. “I feel I should already know the answer to this, but were you ever in the service?”

“No, an older brother of mine was a lieutenant, but he died at twenty when the ship ran afoul of a reef, and I became the heir. I had already been married a few years by then, and if not for Mary’s steadfast love, I would have been miserable as head of the family when I inherited from my father a few years later.”

He was surprised by the duke’s candor yet again. Felix had always imagined Rutherford had been born a duke. That made him a little less intimidating in Felix’s eyes.

“Love is the one thing that can make a long and demanding life worthwhile,” the duke continued. “Do not plan to live without it, Captain, or you will suffer the consequences.”

The Wedding Affair sneak peek 3 #WeWriWa

Thank you everyone for coming by to comment on my posts over the last two weeks. It’s been wonderful to have so positive a response to my new and upcoming story. The moment when Sally met Felix, as you might have gathered, it is not a joyful reunion. They meet in a crowded room and every member of Sally’s family is pretending that Sally and Felix have no history together. The scene begins with Sally’s father, and Felix’s superior officer, greeting him.

[wc_divider style=”dotted” line=”single” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]

“Thank you for coming at such short notice. Sorry about this nonsense interfering with business.”

“I understand completely.” Felix nodded, noticing that Sally’s spine had stiffened as he spoke. It pleased him to know she recognized his voice after so long, because she had always had that effect on him. As a young man, he had been head over heels. Hopelessly drawn to her despite their differences in background and her being his commanding officer’s eldest daughter.

She turned slowly and their eyes met. The dark of the churning winter sea before a storm offered a friendlier welcome. Her eyes narrowed farther as he smiled. Perhaps he had expected too much of her to have seen the error in her assumptions on her own.

The Wedding Affair sneak peek 2 #WeWriWa

“Not long now,” Felix Hastings, captain of His Majesty’s frigate the Selfridge, said to his companion as the end of their journey came in sight. Newberry Park, nestled on the windswept Essex coastline, had undoubtedly been designed to intimidate lesser mortals. Home of the Duke of Rutherford and his large family, the estate possessed a tree-lined drive that meandered through lush grounds and led to a large stone mansion perched high on a distant hill.

He had never expected to see this place, let alone be invited.

Manicured gardens bordered the grand home, but his eye was drawn to the sweeping views of the wild sea, which was lit by the dazzling afternoon sun. It was as pretty as had been described to him once.

“Thought we would never get here,” Gabriel Jennings, former captain of HMS Persephone, grumbled sleepily from his spot across the carriage.

Felix spared a brief glance at the shabbily dressed man and had to wonder if he was finally sober enough to make sense.

That was the second snippet from my upcoming release, The Wedding Affair. Come back next week for Sally and Felix’s first meeting.

The Wedding Affair sneak peek 1 #WeWriWa

I will be betrothed today.

The familiar refrain brought Lady Sally Ford intense satisfaction as she hurried toward Newberry Park’s white drawing room were her future waited to be taken up.

The two footmen flanking the drawing room doors opened them smartly, allowing Sally to make a grand entrance to meet with the earl whom she intended to give her hand in marriage. She noted the occupants arrayed in the afternoon’s final sunrays—her mother and her future mother-in-law.

But no potential groom.

Regardless of the lack of future husband, Sally dropped into a perfect curtsy because she could not afford to make a bad impression. She had spent many additional minutes before her looking glass, making sure her dark hair was perfectly arranged and her lips slightly pinked thanks to a brush of tinted beeswax. She wanted to have kissable lips when she agreed to become a bride.

That was the first peek into my upcoming release, The Wedding Affair. There will be more…
